sunglasses

why does a 16 or 17 year old boy need a pair of sunglasses that cost more than my mortgage payment?

costa del mar. oakley. maui jim. ray-ban.

everyday they compare who has the bigger truck, who has the more expensive sunglasses, who's truck is taller (because in the south, a big jacked-up-four-wheel-drive truck is sought after like the holy graile).

now... how can i teach janie the value of a dollar? how can i get her to understand that just because she wants the $250 ipod, that doesn't necessarily mean that she will get it. (no, she hasn't asked for such, it's just an illustration) but harder still, how to i manage to raise a child that will not even ask for such? i am sure that i asked my parents for some outlandish things as a child. but what these kids ask for (AND GET, mind you) is UNBELEIVABLE.

i rememeber not asking my parents for a pair of Birkenstock bostons when i was in high school because (at about $80) i knew they were too expensive. i graduated high school ten years ago. times have not changed that much. it's only been 10 years. now yes, there were kids in my high school class that had the shoes that i wanted.

but there weren't many of them. a few at most.

okay. maybe i am being petty. and no, janie cannot have an ipod. not until i get one first, that is.

xoxo
