one of them

i found a cool little flash site that has all these pre-made toy-thingys on it. it's mostly that crap that people put on theirspace, but i gotta admit... some of the things i see on those pages are pretty cool.

the only good thing about myspace, that i have found, is that it has gotten my students really into wanting to know more about html and mydigital photos. because only REALLY COOL people can make their own myspace layouts. and only uber-geeky-cool people can make their own layouts and UNDERSTAND what they are doing. and thank heavens, my students want to be uber-geeky-cool. :)

...is a virtual spawning pool of stupidity and high-school bullsh*t. it's filled with crappy images, malicious gimmicks, atrocious spelling and worst of all, stupid people.

i hate to say this, but i almost totally agree. but wait!! yes, i do have a page. it is the only way that some people will keep in touch with me. they won't call, they won't email, but they sure will leave a comment on my myspace page. strange, no?

i had fun making my page. it was a learning experience. i think i have had it almost a year now. i don't think i have updated it since, though. it took about an hour... and anything beyond checking my messages, NOTHING.

i was very upset by the pictures of young girls that i have seen on that site. one that sticks out in my mind is that of a 14 year old in the town where i live - she goes to the high school where i teach. on her myspace profile page there is a picture posed in a way that no 14 year old should ever be posed, wearing something that a 14 year old should not have on. this girl is an honor student, very quiet, and seemingly sweet. but now, i have other ideas, you know?

what exactly are these kids doing on the weekends?

and what can i do for my daughter to keep her from becoming one of them?

xoxo
