chuck e cheese

yep.

every parent needs to go through taking their child to a birthday party at chuck e. cheese.

that place is HELL.

especially when you have a child as scared of EVERYTHING as janie is.

as soon as we walked through the door, she clung to my leg and would not let go. --that lasted for over 20 minutes.

and once i did get her to let go of my leg so i could sit down, she climbed into my lap.

but FINALLY, after about 45 minutes of persuasion and later on, what most would view as bullying, and of course, some yummy pizza, she relented and actually started to participate with the other kids...

janie and jessica LOVED the big mouse. janie was absolutely entranced by him when he first came out. and later on, it dawned on me, she'd never seen anything like that before in person. but i am surprised that she wanted to sit right next to him. seeing as i had just put up my crowbar that i had used only 30 minutes ago to pry her off of my leg...

by time for the birthday party to end, janie was having a really good time. we played lots of games and she rode lots of toys.

but her favorite, and probably the most scary for her, was climbing up into this thing:

it took her about 3 tries to actually get all the way up. she kept getting scared and having to climb back down. finally, when i told her that we were about to leave, she said that she wanted to "climb up the big thing one more time again." her words, not mine.

and so she did.

she didn't make it down the twirly slide, which was her goal to begin with. but i think she had a blast anyway.
