rainbow cupcakes

since i have had an account on pinterest i have found all kinds of things that i want to do, try, and make.

janie and i made rainbow cupcakes!! i let her break the eggs (making sure not to get any shell in the mix) and pour the ingredients together. i even let her measure the water (not the oil though... i could just see the horrible mess all over the floor if that big bottle of oil ended up on the floor... maybe next time...)

after she mixed all the ingredients together, i divided the batter into 5 different bowls and janie added food coloring to each bowl...

then janie put the cupcake liners in the muffin pan while i made sure the color was throughout the batter.

then we poured the batter into the cupcake liners. we started with purple, then blue, then green, then yellow, then red. i figured the red would look better on top since red is more of an appetizing color than blue or purple (and have you ever tried to make purple cake batter? it turns out less purple than you want, i promise...)

they ended up looking pretty good, i guess. janie was thrilled when i pulled them out of the oven, she wanted to eat one right then, but i had to make her wait until they cooled off. she actually touched the muffin pan right after i sat it down on the counter and pulled her hand back sharply... i doubt she does that again, but at least it didn't blister ;)

here's what the inside of one looked like. it reminds me more of tye-dye than a rainbow, honestly...
